Inspiration: Happy Friday!
Today is the 12th day of 2024

We have $12,000.00 today.
10% savings = $1,200.00
40% taxes = $4,800.00: This week I am expressing gratitude for these tax dollars being spent to support the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. It is in the states of Oregon and California. This National Forest was established in 1893 as the Crater National Forest then re-named in 1932 to avoid confusion with Crater Lake National Park. You will find among other wonders Mount Mcloughlin, six different rivers and eight wilderness areas to explore. Check out Sky Lakes, Wild Rogue, Kalmiopsis, Grassy Knob, Rogue-Umpqua Divide, Red Butte, Copper Salmon, and the Siskiyou wilderness areas. Learn more here.

How will you be spending the remaining $6,000.00 today?

HERE IS MY PLAN: Be Inspired

“The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.” – Matty Mullens

How are you showing up in the world?

This year I invite you to pay extra attention to uplifting stories or life moments and then share them with someone else. Sharing “feel good” stories can offset some of the constant influx of negative stories or experiences in our lives. For example: During a regular zoom reading session with eight-year-old Veronika we were discussing Kindness. What is kindness, why does it matter, how can we be more kind? In addition to her class reading several Chapter Books about kindness, the students have been tasked to write two stories about kindness. One story about a time when they saw someone outside of school (at home, at a store, in a restaurant, on the playground, etc.) being kind. The second assignment is to write about how they themselves were being kind. Veronika is writing about a lady she saw taking an orange off a grocery store display which caused an avalanche of oranges to roll all over the floor. Veronika said it was so funny that at first, she giggled. Then she and strangers stopped to help the lady collect the runaway oranges. I commended her on being kind to another person. This week Veronika is focused on seeing people being nice to someone so that she can write a second story for her teacher. Witnessing kindness and hearing kindness stories inspires me to be a better person. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: for self-care. As the snow falls outside, you will find me inside spending Bubble bath time! These self-care dollars are going towards new bath towels in a relaxing shade of blue. I am grateful for the heated water that warms my bones and the fresh clean towels! I am taking time to soak. And I love that!

$0.00 Priceless: Good News stories that help us see more of what is working in the world, in our lives, and in our hearts. The story below was sent to me by one of my friends just after the January 6th, 2021, Washington D.C. events. It is a reminder that even when unthinkable events are occurring in the world, there is also double doses of kindness as well as compassion and love happening. This story helps me to reset my attitude about life. I am someone who believes that HOPE is alive and well. It is one of my priorities to find signs of hope daily. This email came from the principal at Riverside Elementary school on January 7th 2021:

“Good morning, Friends!

I want to share the following experience to let you know that there is still good in this world and to give us all just a little hope and perspective about what is important. About 1pm on Tuesday January 5th, I received a text informing me that the young father of two of our elementary school students had tragically passed away due to the effects of the Covid-19 virus. I was heartbroken. I am the principal of the school and I wondered how we as a school could help. Later that evening I heard that the family was in dire need of a new washer and dryer. I felt this was a simple answer to a prayer; a genuine gesture, a lasting way to help. And so, the call for help went out to our school family. In a simple email I asked the parents from our school if they could give. I asked them if we could synergize and work together to raise enough money to buy this sweet family, a family of six kids, the best washer and dryer we could get. I sent the email at 7:58 a.m. on Wednesday morning, January 6th. And by 9 a.m., just one hour later, we had already received enough to purchase the washer and dryer and the giving just kept coming.

This morning, just before school, two boys marched into my office with a Smucker’s Ice Cream topping jar filled with money. They told me that it had been a Christmas gift from their grandpa who had told them the money was not for them but that they should “find someone who needed it more than them” and give it away. And they did.

Only a few minutes later, a little kindergartner named Lyla came to my office with her teary-eyed teacher telling me that she had something for me. It was a little envelope containing $2.25 ($2.00 from Lyla and .25 from her four-year-old sister.) I could not hug her hard enough.

Whatever happened in our world yesterday I just wanted each of you to know that this is what happened in mine. Do not let the clouds of life drown out the sunlight. There is so much good in the world, you just have to look for it! (or even better go out a make it).” Mr. Staheli : Riverside Elementary Washington, UT January 7th 2021

As life reveals its twists and turns in 2024, I invite you to pay extra attention to uplifting stories or life moments and then share them with someone else.  I look forward to hearing what you find or what you create to contribute to a better world for all. How kind can you stand it in 2024? Respond with love. Repeat. What would it take?

$4,900.00: These dollars are being donated to the Riverside Elementary School discretionary family emergency fund in the name of retired principal Mr. Staheli. When we know people need help, we can choose to do something. How open are you to living in a better world in 2024?

$1000.00: for a date with my husband. This week’s date has a twist. My husband is not feeling his best self. We are just laying low, eating chicken soup, and watching movies.

How much love can you stand?

FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill is inside a children’s book titled The Invisible Boy by Patrice Barton. It is a story about kindness. Someone will find this book in a local Free Little Library. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five Increments of Time: This week I listened to an eight-year-old tell me stories about the acts of kindness she was seeing in her community. How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.

I am rearranging my schedule to make room for more connections in 2024.What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

I have it on good authority that Mrs. Cravens, the third-grade science teacher told the class this week that “There is no Planet B.” She told them to be kind to Earth by Reusing, Recycling, and Repurposing items to keep them out of landfills. What are you doing for the health of our planet?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Ellen. One of Ellen’s living intentions is to be a Board Member for her town’s Public Library. She wants to lend her voice and business expertise to keeping the library open in her community. One way that you can help support Ellen’s living intention is to imagine her successfully serving on the Library Board in 2024. Also, visit your local library and check out a book to read.

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
