Inspiration: Happy Friday!
Today is the 47th day of 2024.

We have $47,000.00 today.
10% savings = $4,700.00
40% taxes = $18,800.00: This week I am expressing gratitude for these tax dollars being spent to support the Samuel McKelvie National Forest. It is in the state of Nebraska. This National Forest was established in 1971. You will find among other wonders the world’s largest, most intact sandhill prairie ecosystem to explore. Sandhill prairie landscapes are “grass-covered, stabilized sand dunes in the high plains”. Learn more here.

How will you be spending the remaining $23,500.00 today?

Joyful laughter fills the air as three women bask in a field of blooms on a sunny day.

HERE IS MY PLAN: Cultivate Kindness

“If we are asking for the world to be kind, we must first ask what we are doing to add more kindness to the world. If we are asking for the world to be more loving, we must first ask what we are doing to add more love. We are the answer to the things we seek.” – Joel Leon

How are you showing up in the world?

It snowed this week; it is snowing as I write this message today. I find that snow nudges people to be kind. Sometimes it is plowing county lanes, shoveling walkways, or helping someone navigate slippery parking lots. Snow beckons people to pay extra attention to the conditions. That heightened awareness creates a radar effect spotlighting opportunities to be kind to others. For example, since it was snowing, my husband dropped me off at the front doors of the hospital for a sleep study and then picked me up again the next day. We live about an hour away from the facility. Therefore, the initial plan was for me to drive myself, but he loves to drive in snow, and I do not! There is an illusion of peace and calm generated by the falling white flakes. I love the opportunities snow provides us to cultivate and engage in random acts of kindness. Hold open a door, shovel someone’s walkways, knit a scarf. Kindness matters. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: for self-care. I am gratefully paying for fuel to heat our home this winter season. And I love that!

$0.00 Priceless: It is Random Acts of Kindness Week! The RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) Foundation provides information and “Free” materials, with activities to practice or teach kindness. Are you willing to play? Here are some easy, doable kindness ideas from the RAK team to consider:

  • Put away your phone and listen with your full attention to people.
  • Smile.
  • Compliment the first three people you talk to today.
  • Send a positive text message to five different people right now.
  • Donate old towels or blankets to an animal shelter.
  • Surprise a neighbor with freshly baked cookies or treats!
  • Leave a gas gift card at a gas pump.
  • Have a LinkedIn account? Write a recommendation for a coworker or connection.
  • Leave unused coupons next to corresponding products in the grocery store.
  • Write a kind message on your mirror with a dry erase marker for yourself, your significant other or a family member.
  • Set an alarm on your phone to go off at three different times during the day. In those moments, do something kind for someone else.
  • Send a gratitude email to a coworker who deserves more recognition.
  • Practice self-kindness and spend 30 minutes doing something you love today.
  • Write a gratitude list in the morning and again in the evening.
  • Write a positive comment on your favorite blog, website, or a friend’s social media account.
  • Invite a few friends to create a clean-up party at a beach or park. Be kind to your community.
  • Pay the toll for the person behind you.
  • Put 50 paper hearts in a box. On each cutout write something that is special about your partner or a friend. Give them the box and tell them to pull out a heart anytime they need a pick-me-up.
  • Write your partner a list of things you love about them.
  • Find opportunities to give compliments. It costs nothing, takes no time, and could make someone’s entire day. Don’t just think it. Say it.
  • Send a ‘Thank you’ card or note to the officers at your local police or fire station.
  • Email or write to a former teacher who made a difference in your life.
  • Encourage a friend.
  • When you hear that discouraging voice in your head, tell yourself something positive — you deserve kindness too!

How open are you to living in a better world in 2024?

Respond with love. Repeat. What would it take?

$22,400.00: I am showing kindness to those affected by the mass shooting in Kansas City this week. These funds are being sent to support the mental well-being of first responders, and members of the media affected by the gun violence at a celebration parade for the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl achievement. Kindness matters. What are you contributing to live in a better world in 2024?

$1000.00: for a date with my husband. This week’s date includes hot soup, a fire in the fireplace, and Cribbage. How loved can you stand it?

FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill is inside a library book. The book is called Pay It Forward: Young Readers Edition by author Catherine Ryan Hyde. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five Increments of Time: This week I offered to help a mom with her ten-year-old who is finding it hard to make friends at a new school. Kindness matters at every age. Being there. How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.

I am cultivating self-kindness by following through with doctor appointments. I have found that when I spend time on myself, I have much more pure loving light energy to contribute to the world and others in my life. Commit to self-kindness. What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

What if being kinder to our Earth was easy?

The School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education program (SCARCE) suggests five simple ways that we can act today:

  1. Pack a waste free lunch.
  2. Pick up five pieces of litter.
  3. Unplug one thing.
  4. Use a reusable water bottle or coffee mug.
  5. Skip the straw.

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Dejoly. One of her living intentions is to teach women how to write their stories. You can help support her living intention by imagining Dejoly interviewing women who publish their books because they start and finish writing projects that they start after taking her classes. I will be in her class this Saturday!

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
