HERE IS MY PLAN: Giggle With Delight
“Laughter is an instant vacation!” – Milton Berle
How are you showing up in the world?
I found myself wrestling with this writing project. Fear showed up as a supporting character in life this week. Stories of escalating protests turning violent on college campuses across the Nation, deadly tornadoes, and one of my younger siblings had a surprise triple bypass heart surgery on Tuesday. The procedure was textbook, and recovery is on target. When I become aware of fear, I ask myself questions with the intention to get back to love as quickly as possible. Starting with the conscious question: “What is this trying to show me, the seeing of which will change everything?”
The answer was: Raise your own vibration by sharing a story that makes you smile. The following one is from my own archives.
Colton is nine years old and in the fourth grade. He is one of the students that I read with each week over zoom. His teacher challenged the class to create kindness projects that can make others feel good. Colton wrestled with this assignment for weeks. He wanted to do something that he enjoys versus just doing something nice. Together we brainstormed and wrote a list of things that Colton loves to do. I invited him to go do some of those things and think about how he could include other people in his fun. From that exercise Colton created his kindness project called “Joke of the Day.” His intention is to help others feel good by sharing a laugh. He is generating more smiles in the world one joke at a time. And I love that!

$100.00: for self-care. I am paying for phone service so that I can connect with siblings and share some of our childhood memories, especially the ones that make us laugh out loud with tears of joy. And I love that!
$0: Priceless: Joyful laughter.

Laughter. What would it take to laugh more each day? It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. I find children’s jokes to be a delightful source of funny material. The following story is one of my favorites found at the ‘Children Jokes Place.’ Even though I know how it ends, I find myself laughing every time I read it or tell the story to a friend. The story goes something like this:
“Sally Smith, a single mom, had two little boys ages 7 and 8, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble and their mom knew that if any mischief occurred in town, her sons would get the blame.
Sally heard that a minister in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The minister agreed and suggested that he see each boy separately. So, the mom sent her 7-year-old first, in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
The minister, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is God?”
The boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response. The minister repeated the question. “Where is God?” Again, the little boy made no attempt to answer. So, the minister raised his voice and shook his finger in the boy’s face as he bellowed, “Where is God!?”
The boy screamed and bolted from the room. He ran home and hid in his closet. His older brother found him in the closet, and asked, “What happened?”
The younger brother replied, “We are in big trouble this time! God is missing and they think we did it!”
What if we all committed to telling someone a children’s friendly joke once a day? Wonder what all that joyful laughter can create?
Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?
$60,900.00 I am sponsoring laughter yoga training for our local school district. Imagine generations learning to laugh on purpose as a stress reduction method. How good can you stand it? Every time you joyfully laugh with a child, you will show up in life as a better human. What are you contributing to live in a better world in 2024?
$1000.00: for a date with my husband. This week’s date includes our annual May Movie Marathon tradition. Starting on May 4th, we watch a Star Wars movie every night. May the Force be with you! How loved can you stand it?
FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.
$5.00: This week’s five-dollar bill is inside the book called One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The book is currently somewhere inside a Free Little Library. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.
Five Increments of Time: This week I have been talking more with family members as we support the well-being of someone we love. Being there. How are you “Flowing Five” this week?
Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.
I am participating in a laughter yoga class. Science supports the health benefits of intentional laughter. Did you know that laughing just to laugh generates endorphins for the good of your body and mind? I will have some of that!
What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:
This week I am supporting one of my siblings. This sibling is on a surprise quest to recover from heart surgery. One of their living intentions is to choose health and vitality to be able to enjoy watching their grandchildren grow and flourish. You can help support my siblings’ living intention to be well by sharing a silly joke or funny childhood story with others. Giggle with your siblings or friends! Do it now.
Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
