Inspiration: Happy Friday!
Today is the 166TH Day of 2024.

We have $166,000.00 today.
10% savings = $16,600.00
40% taxes = $66,400.00: This week I am expressing gratitude for these tax dollars being spent to support the Talladega National Forest. It is one of four National Forests in the state of Alabama. The Talladega National Forest was established in 1936. You will find among other wonders the Pinhoti National Recreation Trail, the Cheaha and Dugger Mountain Wilderness areas, as well as the Talladega Scenic Byway to explore. Learn more here.

How will you be spending the remaining $83,000.00 today?

HERE IS MY PLAN: Connect with Dad

“A father carries pictures where his money used to be.” –Steve Martin

How are you showing up in the world?

Today is the start of Father’s Day weekend and the annual celebration of Juneteenth. This year marks the 159th anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the Confederate South. President Lincoln signed the law to abolish slavery in 1862, but news moved slowly in those times. Through the efforts of our fathers’ fathers and great, great grandfathers’ hope emerged. Each generation has challenges to face. We make choices, solve problems, and create new possibilities.  As a company executive, my dad led and fostered affirmative action in his workplace. I remember family dinner conversations where dad explained the turmoil and resistance new directives can create. He said that employees were scared to work with people of different races and genders. Dad advocated the importance of being a change agent. He opened our young minds to imagine and take actions to believe in a better world for each person. Today we are invited to rise above the fear mongers, see each other with open hearts and contribute more kindness for all. How are you serving humanity? Be a better human. Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: Self-care. Traditionally on Father’s Day weekend I frame a photo of my dad.  The collection of his photos over time provides easy access to remember his lessons of love. This year’s photo is a snapshot from a family event where we visited a horse farm in New Jersey.  Family is one of dad’s legacies of love.

$0: Priceless:  A Dads Love

“Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.” -Ann Geddes

The summer that I turned seven years old, I was riding a pony at my dad’s company picnic.  Each pony was guided by a teenage girl who walked them around a designated circle and ensured that the young riders did not fall out of the saddle.  The teenagers chatted with each other as they led the ponies. One said, “Hey do you see that guy in the maroon shirt over there?” I turned to look and saw the blond-haired guy she was talking about across the field. He was in a crowd watching the aerobatics of a remote-controlled airplane fleet. The girl continued to say, “well my dad says he is the worst man in the whole company.” I said, “That man is my dad!”  The girls gasped. Then like a warrior ready for battle, I leaped off the pony and dashed across the field to warn my dad of the evil lurking on his team. What I learned at seven is the importance of speaking with kindness about others. You never know whose child is listening to your words. Be a better human.

$33,000: These dollars are being added to an endowment directed to support the next generation of change agents with education scholarships in dad’s name.

$18,900: These dollars are supporting a local Juneteenth celebration. Equality, equity, and freedom for all depends on our choices today.

$30,000: These dollars are being donated to the United Nations in dad’s name.

“The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations.[2]”

I am consciously expanding humanity for the world by focusing on kindness to contribute to a better world for all. What if our choices are the key to generating peace and well-being on Earth? Imagine safe communities for all. Everyone can do something to make a difference. What if it is up to us? What can you choose now? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

What are you contributing to live in a better world in 2024?

$1000.00: for a date with my husband that includes one of our Father Day traditions. We are making homemade pizza from scratch. He learned how to make pizza from his dad. We will be swapping dad stories as he spins and flips pizza dough. How loved can you stand it?

FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: This week’s five-dollar bill is inside the book called My Father’s List by Laura Carney. The book is currently somewhere inside a Free Little Library.  I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five Increments of Time: This week I spent time talking with siblings and telling our dad stories. These conversations are more valuable as dad is slipping further away from us as he navigates the isolation of dementia even while being surrounded by family members.  Dementia creates a long, drawn-out goodbye. Luckily, he lives freely in our hearts and is happy in our shared stories. Here are some of Dads go to sayings over the years:

  • “Stay out of my tomatoes!”
  • “What have you done for God and Country today?”
  • “Do something for others. Volunteer.”
  • “Be a community leader.”
  • “Provide, guide and protect your family.”
  • “Go Outside.” “Wear sunscreen.”
  • “Work hard and play hard.”
  • “Have fun. Work, Dance, Swim, Fish, Garden, Golf.”
  • “Just go to bed already!”

Being there. How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.

I have completed day 76 of a 100-day challenge to move my body more daily. It is working. I feel good. What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

Do you shut off the water when brushing your teeth? One simple way to be environmentally kinder is to stop letting water run continually as you brush your teeth each day. What if we can help ourselves and Mother Earth? What are you doing for the health of our planet?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Vickie. One of her Living Intentions is to be a loving daughter. She is someone who organizes an annual adventure with her dad. This year Vickie is taking her dad to every tourist opportunity available while vacationing in Washington DC. One way that you can help support Vickie’s living intention is to imagine her summer adventure turns out way better than she can even dream is possible. Or give yourself permission to go on a local adventure with someone you love. Connection Matters.

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
