We have $215,000.00 today.
10% savings = $21,500.00

HERE IS MY PLAN: Free to Choose Adventure!

“We were told magic did not exist, but down behind our house was an old gully, blanketed with a deep green moss soft as a lamb’s ear, and when the afternoon sun snuck through the branches to light everything up, we knew the magic had been hiding in the forest all along.” – Gabriel Andreas

How are you showing up in the world?

As many of you know, I have been working with a few children on their quest to secure prizes in the Summer Library Reading Challenge. I am happy to report that everyone reached their reading goals this year. The 2024 Reading Challenge theme was “Where Adventure Begins” which means the children have also been documenting all the adventures they have created or participated in during the summer season. One of my favorite stories is about McKenzie’s exploration of volunteer projects. Each week she challenged herself to volunteer somewhere new in the community. A few of McKenzie’s volunteer adventures included weeding a community garden, reading story books to seniors at a facility where one of her aunts works, helping a neighbor lead plant identification tour hikes at a State Park, picking up trash at the zoo and her favorite project was sorting cans at a local food pantry. Remember that you are free to choose adventure. It is as easy as reading a book. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: Self-care to pay for another month of internet connection, especially for access to Zoom. Listening to children both read and share their perspectives about life adventures fuels my heart with hope for humanity. And I love that!

$0: Priceless: Adventurous Conversations

“The highest activity a human being can attain is learning for understanding, because to understand is to be free.” -Spinoza

Practice unjudging someone. In these challenging times, who are you “being” and what are you contributing to support humanity? Twenty-four years ago, in Copenhagen Denmark a youth group experiment at a local summer festival turned into a viable community solution. The challenge of this event was to develop an educational experience that would address the rise of violence in the community. The youth group created a library lending booth with a twist. The “books” were volunteers who were checked out to strangers for 30 minutes at a time. Imagine sitting face to face with a stranger and hearing them tell you firsthand what it’s like to be discriminated against for their race or religion or disability or other life circumstances. The festival participants selected a topic category at the lending booth and then were matched up with an available human book. During the thirty minutes the “human book” would tell a specific story about how their life was impacted by the topic and then opened the conversation to questions. The human book experiment continues today as the international not for profit called the Human Library. What topic would you choose to learn about from a stranger? If you volunteer to be a human book, what story would you share and why? Adventure is just a conversation away.

$106,400.00:  These dollars are supporting the programs offered by the Human Library. The mission of the Human Library is “to challenge what we think we know about other members of our community. We support challenging stereotypes and prejudices in a positive framework, where difficult questions are accepted, expected, and appreciated.” Learn more here.

How open are you to living in a better world in 2024? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill was placed inside a library book called The Can Man by Laura E Williams and illustrated by Craig Orback. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five increments of time: This week I spent several days with my friend Kathryn mapping out creative projects and completing many, many tasks by supporting each other to take another step forward. It went well for both of us!  Being there; how does it get better than that? How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time. I am volunteering. Each week I listen to children read. I make time in my schedule and look forward to hearing from each child with my full attention.  I am a better person when I volunteer. I feel good. What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

Do you know what animals are on the endangered species list due to climate changes?  Here are a few: Polar Bears, Penguins, Elephants, Giraffes and Honeybees. Wonder what I can do now to make a difference in the environment for future generations?   What are you doing for the health of our planet?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Beth who is currently on a dream voyage in Peru. One of her living intentions is to create travel adventures that infuse her life with a variety of experiences. You will find her hiking Machu Picchu with friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. One way that you can help support Beth’s living intention is to create and choose to experience more adventure in your life. Go somewhere new in your local area this week, check out a few books from the library to read, or have a conscious conversation with a stranger. Choose Adventure!

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
