Inspiration: Happy Friday!
Today is the 236TH Day of 2024.

We have $236,000.00 today.
10% savings = $23,600.00
40% taxes = $94,400.00: This week I am expressing gratitude for these tax dollars being spent to support the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Located in the states of Oregon, Idaho and Washington. The Wallowa National Forest was established in 1908. Then in 1954 Wallowa was combined with Whitman National Forest for administration ease. You will find among other wonders Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in the United States, Blue Mountain Range and the Snake River to explore. Learn more here.

How will you be spending the remaining $118,000.00 today?

HERE IS MY PLAN: Boost Kindness

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” – Dalai Lama

How are you showing up in the world?

To me it feels like there is an elephant in the room during conversations with people. The elephant typically centers around world politics, culture wars, and our responsibility for humanity. In the United States we are navigating an obstacle course of rhetoric in this Presidential election season. It seems that every issue facing our nation has plot twists, a gauntlet of truth or lies to traverse, and cyber warriors from around the world playing games to hack into systems to control messages being sent to the masses. Who and what do we believe? What can we do to contribute to a better world for all? Listen to your heart songs and be kinder. Yes, kindness is the key. We are all being invited to respond to life with love. We do not have to agree with everyone. I invite you to consider each time you feel uncomfortable or scared or angry about politics that it is an indication that you need to be kinder to yourself. When we are fueling ourselves with kindness, we are more open to hearing what others are saying but not to plug into their stories. Be Kinder. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: Self-care. When children go back to school, I find myself buying more books to learn new things. After I read these books, I will pass them forward to others.  And I love that!

$0: Priceless: People helping people.

Help a neighbor, help a stranger, help someone today with your presence.

“No act of kindness is too small. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple that over time can turn into a tidal wave affecting the lives of many.” – Kevin Heath

There was an incident of kindness captured by a young librarian in Northern California. This scenario unfolded in the children’s area of the Solano County Library. A Dad pulled out his laptop to respond to a few work emails while his six-year-old son went hunting for books in the library. Ten minutes later the little boy ran back to his dad holding a brightly colored book written in Spanish and asked his dad to read it to him. Dad said “Sorry buddy, I don’t know any Spanish. Give me a few more minutes and I will help you find another book.” However, a second little boy walked up and said, “I think I know Spanish, can I read to you?” The two little boys sat on a small couch and began looking at the book together. Mom of the second boy walked up to the dad and said, “I am so sorry, but my child does not know any Spanish. He just loves talking with other people.” Both parents laughed together. Meanwhile, a ten-year-old boy stepped up to the children and said, “Hey, I know Spanish. Can I read the book to you?” The little boys made room on the couch and enjoyed the story. After reading to the younger children, the older boy went to his grandmother and asked her if she had seen what he did. Grandmother responded with a big hug. Then the two of them walked out of the building holding hands and beaming. “Library kids are going to save the world!” Take time to read to a child. Take time to let a child read to you. How does life get even better than that?

$116,900.00 I am donating these dollars to support raises for the staff at our little rural public library. When librarians love what they do, communities thrive from their extra kindness. How open are you to living in a better world in 2024? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

$1000.00: This week’s date includes a long moonlit walk with the dogs. There is a blanket of peace and calm to be found in the warmth of August’s summer nights.  Sometimes we chat and sometimes we just lean into the night sounds and listen to the stories of nature. Walking creates a sacred space of being together.  How much love can you stand?

FLOW FIVE FRIDAY: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill is inside one of my favorite children’s books called Fritz and the Beautiful Horses written and illustrated by Jan Brett. Someone will find it inside a Free Little Library. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five increments of time: This week I showed up to support a friend whose youngest child started Kindergarten. I witnessed both the joy and sadness of new beginnings.  Being there; how does it get better than that? How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time. I am focused on being hydrated. Since the summer fruit and vegetables are bountiful and ripe at this time of year, I have been adding just picked cucumbers to my water containers. My water intake has increased, and I feel great! What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

Do you practice “trip chaining?” According to TravelWise, trip chaining comprises mapping out your errands and other activities by grouping them into one trip instead of returning home in between each one. The more errands you group together, the more vehicle trips you save. What are you doing for the health of our planet?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Martin whose son is being deployed to the Middle East this week. One of his living intentions is to be a loving father and grandfather. One way that you can help support Martin’s living intention is to remember that less than one percent of the US population ever serves our country in uniform. Be grateful and live like you mean it! What can you choose to live a better life today?

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
