HERE IS MY PLAN: Power Up Gratitude

“Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things humans can do for each other.” –Randy Pausch

What if we all power up our gratitude practices? I believe that Gratitude matters and can make a difference in the world. This week I received an envelope full of leaves that were carefully cut out of construction paper by thirteen-year-old Grace. She is one of the school children that I have been reading with on Zoom since 2020. Gratitude leaves have become one of our traditional practices since Grace learned about Gratitude Trees from a teacher. The following story describes how it all got started: In 2020 Grace was nine and in the fourth grade. Her teacher Mrs. Broses created a paper tree in the classroom for a November gratitude practice. Each day the students receive six leaves to write something they appreciated about that day and then they would add those leaves to the tree. In the morning each student receives two green leaves, two yellow leaves and two orange leaves. The two green leaves are for the students to write something that they appreciate about specific students in their class. The teacher assigns the class a different student’s name in the morning and then another in the afternoon every school day to ensure that no one is left out in this practice. The two yellow leaves are reserved for something that they are thankful for that they learned, and the two orange leaves are designated for something that makes their heart feel happy.  Grace shared the Gratitude Tree story with me during a reading session. She also confessed to worrying about what she would write when it was time to say something about a boy named Hank. Grace didn’t care for Hank and was concerned about telling a lie by writing something nice about him on a leaf. I asked her lots of questions and by the time we had finished she had three truthful loving things to write about Hank. Gratitude Matters. I am powering up my Gratitude Practices by listening to children tell me their stories. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: Self-care. I am buying several beautiful blank journals that I can write daily appreciations inside with colorful pens. I notice more of life’s little details as my gratitude expands. And I love that!

$0: Priceless: Be More Thankful

“The miracle of gratitude is that it shifts your perception to such an extent that it changes the world you see.” Dr. Robert Holden

Expressing Gratitude improves people’s immune systems and helps them to sustain the vibration of love longer. Gratitude becomes a love frequency.  Researcher David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. discovered the quantifying impact of the energy frequency of love. His experiments’ vetted data that indicates with statistical significance that “one person holding, and sustaining the vibration of love, can influence and raise the vibration of 750,000 people.”   You can read more about his research in Power vs Force. Your gratitude practice raises the vibration of love for many people. How thankful can you stand it?

$151,900.00:

These dollars are contributing to an attitude of gratitude, compassion, and kindness with a donation to the Montana Food Bank Network programs. Their mission is to “end hunger in Montana through food acquisition and distribution, education, and advocacy. MFBN has been feeding Montana since 1983. Our vision is a Montana free from hunger where everyone has equal access to nutrient-dense food.”  Learn more here. I am grateful for my daily access to food and safe drinking water. We can all do something kind and express our gratitude. How open are you to living in a better world in 2024? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

$1000.00:

This week’s date with my husband includes walking under a star-filled sky and telling each other what we appreciate about each other. I am grateful that we consistently take time to connect and express gratitude for our relationship. How loved can you stand it?

Flow Five Friday:Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill will be found inside the book called Horton Hears a Who!Written by Dr. Suess. The story is about caring for others. Five increments of time:this week’s five-dollar bill will be found inside a book called Flight of the Puffin written by Ann Braden. Frannie just finished reading this story to me and when I returned my copy to the local library, I slipped this week’s money between the last two chapters. The story is about changing communities with the impact of random positive communication. This book is in our local library. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.
The science regarding Gratitude indicates a 25% increase in people’s overall health when they are taking consistent actions of appreciation at home, work, and school. I am rebooting my gratitude focus and doing a happy dance when I feel grateful for someone or something. My body is moving more often. What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Marie who is making allergen free alternative items from her home kitchen. Her homespun venture is called Conscious Cupcakes. One of Marie’s living intentions is cooking allergen-free desserts that support her family’s special health needs and that are appealing to children and adults. They are beautiful, fun, inspiring works of art, and taste delicious. She also wants to help other moms cook healthier alternatives for their families. One way that you can help support Marie’s living intention is to check out her idea here: https://consciouscupcake.com/
