HERE IS MY PLAN: Allow Kindness to Rise
“Ubuntu: Being kind to others on account of one’s common humanity.” –Dr Marc Brackett
We are all one. Another translation of what Ubuntu means is “I am because we are.” At this moment in time, we are being invited to power up our human interconnectedness. What if you listen with the same passion as you want to be heard?
This week in the USA, the nation watched as the 2024 Presidential election returns went up and down and sideways. We all voted, however, our household decided to put a moratorium on watching any news reports for the sake of our mental health. Instead, we have been reading books and listening to podcasts. Listening to podcast episodes I was reminded of a story about the peace and social justice activist A.J. Muste. It was during the Viet Nam war that A.J. Muste began a practice where he stood outside the White House every night with a lit candle. He maintained this solo vigil no matter what the weather. Often, he had to re-light his candle due to wind, snow or rainy conditions. One night a reporter showed up and asked him several questions. One of which was “Mr. Muste, do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night in front of the White House with a candle?” A.J. Muste replied softly: “Oh I do not do this to change the country. I do this so the country won’t change me.” At this moment in time, we are being invited to power up our human interconnectedness. What if you listen with the same passion as you want to be heard? I am responding to life with love, allowing kindness to rise and be seen. How are you showing up in the world?
$100.00: Self-care. I am buying fresh fruits and vegetables to feed my mind and body this week. This is one way to put the proverbial oxygen mask on myself first so that I choose life from a healthier perspective. And I love that!
$0: Priceless:
Choice
“The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.” – Matty Mullens
Reminders that we have a choice regarding how we respond in situations. An intense storm of doubt is brewing in many people that I know and love. Political rhetoric shaped by fear mongering has saturated this year’s election. Whenever I become conscious that these uncertainties are feeding my mind with fearful thoughts, I stop everything to take three deep breaths. This practice helps me to ground my thinking and own my feelings. Change facilitator PJ Hughes shared a message that reminds me to take responsibility for how I show up in the world especially in times of chaos. Hughes wrote, “you are being invited to release any disappointment you may harbor, or false sense of victory you may be boasting, and take a closer look. You are queuing up for the most profound opportunity to redefine what is possible for you, as a whole humanity. You have each been positioned in the spotlight of accountability. And you are being held accountable. You can only control how you, yourself are showing up and contributing to the collective good, for the benefit of all concerned. You are either contributing from surviving (fear), or you are contributing from thriving (Love). We do not judge your free will. We do, however, invite you to step to the sidelines if you choose to be a part of the problem, and step onto the field if you choose to be a part of the solution. In either case you are perfectly placed. We just want you to be clear, and accountable, about where you stand.”
Personally, I stand for peace, kindness and consciously responding with love in life situations. And I love that! What contribution are you being in the world today? How kind can you stand it?
$155,400.00: These dollars are supporting The Muste Institute. They offer “grants, sponsorships, and educational resources to hundreds of grassroots projects around the world. They fund innovative organizing, often with seed funds that give a necessary boost to bold ideas.” What is possible now? Learn more here:
We can all do something kind and express our gratitude. How open are you to living in a better world in 2024? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?
$1000.00: This week’s date with my husband includes a news free weekend. You will find us reading books and lying low to recharge our human spirit together. Kindness starts at home. How loved can you stand it?
Flow Five Friday: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.
$5.00: this week’s five dollars were sent to The Muste Institute. The address is 168 Canal Street 6th Floor, New York, New York 10013. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.
Five increments of time: This week I spent time helping Max with a book report. His mom was feeling overwhelmed with working full time and managing three children while her husband was away on business. The book Max chose was M.D. Whalen’s: The Fantastic Flatulent Fart Brothers Save the World! I forgot how funny bodily functions are to children. We laughed and laughed as the book report was written. This week I helped both a mom and child with schoolwork. Being there; how does it get better than that? How are you “Flowing Five” this week?
Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.
As a household we unplugged from news channels this week and spent more time reading books and listening to podcasts. And I love that! What are you doing or not doing for self-care?
Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.
