Inspiration: Happy Friday!
Today is the 341st Day of 2024.

We have $341,000.00 today.
10% savings = $34,100.00
40% taxes = $136,400:

This week I am expressing gratitude for these tax dollars being spent to support the Capitol Reef National Park. Located in the state of Utah. The Capitol Reef National Park was established in 1971. You will find among other wonders, red rock formations, canyons, and a 100-mile-long geologic monocline or “wrinkle on the Earth” known as the Water-pocket Fold to explore.  Learn more here.

How will you be spending the remaining $170,500.00 today?

HERE IS MY PLAN: Be Human and Kind

“The most important thing you need to do is take care of your piece, because if it’s raggedy or you can’t find it or the edges are frayed, the other pieces can’t connect to it.” –Denise McDermott

How are you showing up in the world?

Some people say that hope is everywhere if you know where to look. This week I found hope for a better world at the grocery store. Grief is messy and I had been putting off grocery shopping since mom passed. Therefore, my food cart was overflowing with items. The cashier started to scan my order and send things down the conveyor belt. I continued to empty the cart. Finally, I was able to begin bagging groceries. To my surprise I found someone was already taking items off the conveyor belt to put into bags. A young boy who looked to be about five-years old was happily engaged in the bagging game. We had a little conversation before his mom noticed and gently diverted his attention elsewhere. Before leaving I thanked him again for helping me and gave him some holiday stickers that I had just purchased. He turned to his mom and asked, “why did she give me these stickers?” His mom said, “because you were being kind and helping today.”  Hope is everywhere when you take time to look. Let’s take care of our “piece” in life’s puzzle and stand together for human kindness. How are you showing up in the world?

$100.00: Self-care. I am buying food to take good care of myself.  And I love that!

0$ Priceless: Acts of Kindness in Your Community

““Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.”  -H.S. Kushner

Today, find more ways to be kind. December always nudges me to stretch my kindness awareness. I will be participating in the annual December Mitten Tree Day events. Communities have been inspired for decades to be creative and generous by reading the children’s book The Mitten Tree written by Candace Christiansen. The story is about an old woman who notices children waiting at a bus stop each morning. She sees one boy who doesn’t have mittens and decides she will knit a pair for him. To stay anonymous and not embarrass the boy she put the mittens in a nearby evergreen tree for him to find. Delighted at his response, she begins knitting mittens for more children each night and leaving them to be found on the tree. The current day “Mitten” campaigns have grown to include scarves, hats and even coats to keep children warm in the winter. I invite you to dust off your inner child and take five minutes to listen to a teacher read the story here.

Remember that Kindness Matters.

$169,400.00: I am contributing these dollars to the St Catharine’s Museum 2024 Mitten Tree Campaign. The campaign launches Saturday, Dec. 7, and encourages visitors to bring new and gently used winter wear to the museum to put on the tree. They will also be offering other activities in conjunction with the mitten drive this year. Learn more here.

How open are you to living in a better world in 2024? Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?

$1000.00: This week’s date with my husband includes toy shopping. Each December we choose a child or a whole family from a community organization participating in generating generosity for the holidays. We go to a toy store where we can test all the new toys and choose favorites to purchase and donate. We also shop online and ship items directly to local organizations for distribution to children in need. It is still fun to shop for toys with my husband. How much love can you stand?

Flow Five Friday: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.

$5.00: this week’s five-dollar bill was placed inside a library book. The book is called “Last Stop on Market Street”, written by Matt de la Pena and illustrated by Christian Robinson. It is a story about paying attention to people in your community and responding with kindness. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.

Five increments of time: This week I received help bagging groceries from a five-year-old boy. I am noticing more acts of kindness. Seeing others being kind inspires me to be kinder. Allowing kindness sparks joy and fuels hope for humanity. Being there; how does it get better than that? How are you “Flowing Five” this week?

Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time.

Since I am in a fog of grief, I am continuing to ask for what I need. Which is for my friends to not say that they are “sorry” for my loss, but instead send their love or say that they love me. Love allows me to feel all the feelings as I both grieve and celebrate my mother. And I love that! What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Planet Awareness: Contributing to the health of Earth.

Artist and Poet, Gabriel Andreas offers the following love letter to Mother Earth. Since today is my own mother’s funeral, I find his words speaking to me in her voice. Love is love. Andreas invites us to consider Earth’s resilience as a message of hope.

“Dear Mother Earth, When I think of you, it is with thoughts of butterflies and flowers. I did not know their names until you told me, like a precious secret, like this knowledge was the only true wealth, and how lucky that we could be rich together. Perhaps I would not know how to love the world from the roots up, as you do, without your quiet enthusiasm for everything that grows.
It might seem a perilous undertaking of the spirit, to see what beauty is still alive in this world of smoke, and speed, and fear, but as I question if there is hope for us in the times to come, I remember you Mother Earth, in your gardens, smiling, and showing us that hope is everywhere if you know where to look.” Gabriel Andreas

What are you doing for the health of our planet?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention:

This week I am supporting my friend Kathryn. One of Kathryn’s Living Intentions is to ensure there will be First Responders available to help you whenever the need arises. Did you know that First Responders are on an endangered species list? The burnout rate is shrinking staff members at Fire Departments, Emergency Rooms, Ambulance Drivers, Law Enforcement Agencies, Judicial Departments, 911 Call and Dispatch Centers and more. Soon no one will be there when we call 911 for help. What if we can do something about this burnout epidemic? One way that you can help support Kathryn’s Living Intention is to tell your friends about Restoration Ranch Colorado (check out their Nationwide Valor Vacation program). And if you can, please donate to this nonprofit through Colorado Gives on or before December 10th. Generosity is kindness in action. Learn more here.

Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
