HERE IS MY PLAN: Flourish with Kindness
“You are just a few laughs away from letting a whole lot of good stuff in. You are just a few kisses away from letting a whole lot of good stuff in. You are just a little bit of relief away from letting a whole lot of good stuff in. Let the good stuff in!” -Ester Hicks
How are you showing up in the world?
Happy Fourth of July! I hope today finds you enjoying friends, family, or a break from routine as we celebrate the 249th anniversary of the United States of America. About three years ago I moved to live in a small farm/ranching community. One of my favorite memories revolves around stopping to get groceries at the local store. The checkout lines are often busy at this little place. The cashiers greet customers with friendly banter and keep business moving along as fast as possible. There were six customers in front of me, so I found myself watching people as I waited for my turn to purchase groceries. Over in the twelve items or less lane, I noticed an older gentleman carefully pulling things out of his basket and putting them on the conveyor belt. One peach, a loaf of bread, and three cans of cat food. His hands shook with the rhythms of age as he slowly took change out of his pockets. The cashier was patient, looked him in the eyes and kept chatting as he put another coin on the counter. He did not have enough money to pay for the few items. There was a young man, who looked to be about sixteen, in line behind this gentleman. He had a bottle of Gatorade, a bag of chips and a candy bar waiting on the conveyor belt. When the old man realized he was short on cash, the young man quickly stepped in to give the cashier a few dollars to complete the transaction. One of the delightful things about living in this small rural community is the overwhelming attention to kindness that people offer to others. Kindness flourishes each time someone helps someone else from their heart. Let more of the good stuff in! How are you showing up in the world?
$100.00: Self-care. I am buying art supplies to expand juicy joy in my life. Creative expression through art is an example of me letting more “good stuff” in! And I love that!
$0: Priceless: Volunteering: It helps us let more of the good stuff in.
“There are several questions to ask yourself when you notice that you are stuck or down or worried. Have I eaten something? Have I left the house? Have I spoken to someone? Have I exercised? And have I volunteered to help someone else?”- Happiness Researcher Dr. Michael Plant
Community volunteering matters. Do you know about the program that offers free lawn care for seniors, the disabled, single parents, veterans, and other community members who do not have the resources to care for their yards. Mr. Rodney Smith Jr from Alabama created the “50 Yard Challenge” to inspire and teach youth the value of community service. The program is open to children in the United States between the ages of 8 to17. Mr. Smith personally delivers a new lawn mower, weed whacker, and leaf blower to each child who completes and documents the 50 yards that they cared for in their community. Kindness is a form of wisdom that transforms humanity. How kind are you being?
$80,000.00: These dollars are supporting the 50 Yard Challenge program offered for community impact by the nonprofit called We are Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service. Their mission is “To Inspire Kids to Serve Others.” How much kindness can you stand? LEARN MORE HERE!
$11,400.00: I am sponsoring a Staff Appreciation Day at the local grocery store. Saying thank you to the store team and letting them know how their attention to customer kindness is visible each time I visit this community establishment. Kindness matters. Respond to life with love. Repeat. What would it take?
$1000.00: for a date with my husband that includes sitting outside together to watch the fireworks displays.
How loved can you stand it?
Flow Five Friday: Current “real” life expressions of gratitude, love, and contribution to wellbeing.
$5.00: this week’s five dollars were sent to Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service. The address is PO Box 2182 Madison, AL 35758. I am choosing to be the energy of what works in life.
Five increments of time: This week Jaxson read from one of his summer library book selections. His current book is called Rebugging the Planet: The Remarkable Things that Insects and Other Invertebrates Do- And Why We Need to Love Them written by Vicki Hird. I am listening to a child’s delight as he learns about bugs. Being there; how does it get better than that? How are you “Flowing Five” this week?
Well-Being: Something that I am doing or not doing for self-care in real time. I write down five gratitude moments from each day in a dedicated journal. This practice creates a reference point that I revisit when uncertainty distracts my attention from joy or disrupts my kindness momentum. Gratitude is a self-calibration tool. And I love that! Wonder what is possible now? What are you doing or not doing for self-care?

Hold Space or Contribute to a Friends Life Intention
This week I am supporting my friend Jillian who is a public librarian. She loves the joy generated when interacting with people of all ages as she assists them to find their next reading adventure. One of her living intentions is to increase the number of people in her community that check out books monthly. One way that you can help support Jillian’s living intention is to visit your local library this summer. Jillian’s book recommendation for July is After the Ecstasy, The Laundry by Jack Kornfield. It is a collection of essays from spiritual teachers on the path to enlightenment who realize that they still must deal with being human. What are you reading this summer?
Choose joy. Be kind. Love others and strive to be a better human. What would it take?
